JOB DESCRIPTION

Many people who are homeless struggle to access appropriate health care ending up going to one of the local hospitals to seek medical attention. A person does not need to have an address to access primary health care but some surgeries still turn people away.

This is where Homeless Friendly can help, the scheme was set up by Dr Chauhan OBE in 2017. Being aware that many people who are homeless were and to a degree still are unable to access appropriate medical provision, he discussed this situation with other likeminded GP’s wanting to ensure that people who are homeless are welcomed and able to register at their practices. The decision was made to encourage and support GP’s to pledge that they will offer support to people who find themselves homeless or are threatened with homelessness. This was the original purpose of Homeless Friendly and is still paramount in all that we do.
