Islington has become the first London Borough to pledge to offer quality services to those experiencing homelessness.

Executive member for housing and development, Diarmaid Ward, and Leader of the Council Richard Watts, put their names to a promise to examine the local authority’s policies and procedures and ensure that they cater for rough sleepers, sofa surfers and others without a fixed abode.

Homeless Friendly founder Dr Zahid Chauhan said: “Going South is a major boost for our scheme which has until now, been largely North West based. The fact that this first promise is in Jeremy Corbyn’s constituency will give it even more profile and spur others on to join with us. This really is a council showing that they care for the most vulnerable in their community and it is a victory in the battle to ensure health equality for all.”
